At over 1760 metres Rainbow captures regular winter snow, complemented by extensive
snow making. Groomers work through the night to provide a stunning
winter recreation area. Winter fun for everyone: The wide uncrowded
slopes and well groomed trails provide superb terrain for beginners
and intermediates while advance skiers can challenge themselves
in the high powder runs and chutes. Snow Boarders love the varied
terrain, the jumps, bumps and drops. Rainbow is open every day
9.00 am to 4.00 pm from early July to early October

Après ski in the Hanmer Springs village. Hanmer Springs Ski Area is a club owned
and operated mountain nestled just 20km above the alpine village
of Hanmer Springs. Comfortable accommodation is available on
the mountain for the full alpine experience. Groups are welcome.

challenging chutes. Try night skiing and the unique, intimate,
relaxed atmosphere in our on-mountain lodges. Your adventure
begins with a 15 minute walk up through stunning native beech
forest to the on-mountain accommodation and ski field, while
your gear is transported on the goods lift.
Visit the Temple Basin website Temple Basin Ski Area covers a great variety of terrain spread over four separate
basins. There are gentle slopes for complete beginners, adrenalin-pumping
challenges for the expert, and everything in between. There are
two modern lodges offer bunk room style accommodation for 120
people, only metres from the tows. Ski and snowboard hire, and
expert instruction are all available on the mountain.
Visit the Foxpeak website Fox Peak is situated in the spectacular Two Thumbs Range, 2 hours from Christchurch,
towards Lake Tekapo. If you are a beginner through to keen Intermediate,
the long enjoyable blue runs are for you. Unrivalled views from
the mountain stretch from Timaru to Banks Peninsula and you can
see Mt Cook from the top of the peak. South Basin has a series
of rolling bowls which capture the fresh snow nicely. Stay overnight
in the warm congenial Fox Lodge for a whole new alpine experience.
Visit the Craigieburn Valley website Deep in the Southern Alps, discover legendary Craigieburn Valley Ski Area; steep
narrow chutes, wide open powder bowls, un-crowded runs and a
place to take it easy. Recommended for intermediate to advanced
off-piste enthusiasts. Whakamaru day lodge, at 1625m, guarantees
the freshest coffee for miles with breath taking views. At the
end of the day, you can ski or board to Koroheke lodge's front
door just in time for happy hour at the bar. Genuine kiwi hospitality.
Visit the Mt Cheeseman website Mt Cheeseman is the closest club ski area to Christchurch. Situated 90 minutes
drive away, it is a sunny northeast basin with open rolling terrain
which is available to the public. With great beginner and intermediate
slopes, Cheeseman is perfect for learners and families. For adventurers,
Mt Cockayne offers challenging off-piste conditions with deep
powder skiing and fantastic views of the Craigieburn Range. The
terrain park staff also make an awesome quarter pipe and series
of jumps.
Visit the Mt Olympus website Mt Olympus is 1 ½ hours from Christchurch and 50 minutes from Methven. It’s back-country setting gives it a real ‘middle of nowhere’ feel. The ski area is a wide open south facing bowl which captures some of the
best southerly powder in Canterbury. Situated half way up the
mountain, the warm Top Hut Lodge and beginner’s slope is reached via the Access Tow. The beginner’s area is safe and close to the shelter of the lodge, a perfect spot to get the
hang of the rope tow.
